in the murder-suicide case of nfl player jovan belcher. police tell "the kansas city star" that belcher's mother saw him kiss his girlfriend on the forehead saying he was sorry. seconds after he shot her on saturday. he also kissed his baby daughter and apologized to his own mother. >> kansas city police say belcher legally owned the handgun that he used to kill kasandra perkins and then himself there. are no official numbers, but some players and coaches say 50% to 90% of nfl players own guns. jim axelrod looks at why athletes and firearms go together so often. >> i'm 21 years old, i have a lot of money in one pocket and a gun in the other pocket and i'm saying please leave me alone. >> reporter: this is former pro football player marcellus wiley, a gun control advocate speaking three years ago at the brady center about why he used to carry a gun. >> i remember taking the same gun to the nightclubs, to the restaurants where i would go eat. not to be a villain, but just really in a warped sense of mind, an identity trying to protect myself. >> reporter: unfortunate
belcher kissed her on the forward and told her he was sorry. after he shot her nine times. that's from the reporting of the kansas city star newspaper. police have confirmed it to fox news. it would all end moments later in the parking lot of the chief's stadium with the team's general manager, head coach and defensive coordinator standing there helpless. the star reports that he said i killed her. and asked they take care of his three-month-old daughter and said, guys, i have to do this. the 25-year-old reportedly kneeled and made the sign of the cross and shot himself in the head. that cross sign probably did not help. we are learn new details of the problems he was dealing with before all of this happened. not to put an excuse on anything but here is trace gallagher. the chiefs new there was trouble in the relationship. >>trace: in fact, they were providing jovan belcher with couples counseling but right before he killed himself he told the chiefs general manager the counseling was not enough. we are also now learning that hours before the shooting, kasandra came home from a concert

city. thanks so much. >>> in wyoming, a teacher at kas her college may have saved the lives of several of his students. james crumb, a computer science teacher was starting class when a shooter broke in and assaulted crumb. more shocking the identity of the attacker. it was the teacher's own son. before 25-year-old christopher crumb had fatally stabbed his father's girlfriend at his home and he fatally stabbed his father before fatally stabbing himself. you smoke to neighbors and did the neighbors in fact tell you whether the teacher and his girlfriend, whether they were concerned, whether they had any fears, whether there are security issues? >> that's the question now is what happened to lead a son to kill his father. i spoke to a neighbor who lived directly across the street from heidi arnold and jim crumb. she said she met them last summer, that they largely kept to themselves but there were no red flags about any of this that potentially could have happened. and in a press conference with police, there weren't any red flags, i would could have been much, much worse. both of the pr
security expert fran townsend about all of this. >>> hours leading up to a kansas city chiefs player's murder/suicide. jovan belcher was out partying with another woman the night before he shot his girlfriend, kasandra perkins. belcher and oert woman became separated. he wound up returning to her apartment complex. when he couldn't find her, he crashed at her neighbor's house and the neighbor says belcher was drunk. he returned home the next morning, several hours after perkins got back from a night out. the couple argued and belcher killed perkins, later killing himself. >> we will cherish the wonderful memories we have of jovan and pray that those memories will bring us peace as we grapple to understand the unpredictable and tragic ending of his life and the life of kasandra perkins. >> kasandra perkins released a statement saying, quote, we appreciate the outpouring of love and concern for our kasandra "kasi" perkins. our hearts are truly broken for kasi. she was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin, mother and friend. please keep us in your hearts and prayers as well

. >> ben farmer in afghanistan. thank you. >>> just seven hours from now, the kansas city chiefs will play the carolina panther, the team deciding not to reschedule the game after linebacker jovan belcher shot his girlfriend in front of her mother and then driving to the training facility where he shot himself in front of the coach and general manager. casey wine is in kansas city for us this morning. local media report the two had a fight after a concert friday night. what do you know about that? >> reporter: we don't know much about the concert that the kansas city star is reporting about. we do know police say there was some sort of argument either late friday night or early saturday morning before this tragic -- these two tragic shootings happened. we spoke last night with a next door neighbor of jovan belcher and of his girlfriend. they had been living in that house for about a year, the neighbor told us. the neighbor did not want us to use his name. he said that the two appeared to have been getting along very, very well. they had a baby just three months ago, born on september 11th.

in the wake of her death, protesters are filling the streets there in india's capital, as well as other cities. you see this candlelight vigil going on right now in new delhi. cnn is at the protest site there. joining us now by phone. malika, first of all, what's the situation like there? these protests look peaceful. have you heard any reports otherwise. >> reporter: it is a peaceful protest, right here at this candlelight vigil, a very smooth and peaceful protest. the police have been appealing for calm. remember, last weekend's protests were anything but peaceful and calm, they were quite violent. today police have, police beefed up tremendously across the capitol. the protests, many have been here since 10:00 a.m., and it's now close to 7:00 p.m. in the evening, but throughout the day, the protests, they've been loud, they've been calm, but they have been very, very peaceful. >> i know protesters are calling the young victim lightning in hind dein hindu. why has this become such a lightning rod in india? >> reporter: a really good point you raise. it has become a lightning rod here in indi

. police say the 25-year-old member of the kansas city chiefs killed his girlfriend at her home before then driving to arrowhead stadium. and that is where team officials tried talking to belcher. police describe what happened next as the officers closed in. >> when the officers arrived, when they were pulling up they actually observed a blackmail who had a gun to his head. he was talking to a couple of coaches out in the parking lot, as officers pulled up and began to park that's when they heard the gunshot. it appears the individual took his own life. >> our nbc affiliate says belcher and his girlfriend had a 3-month-old old child now in family custody. what a tragedy there. >>> we also have breaking news from florida. that is where police are interviewing the bus driver who caused a deadly crash at miami international airport. investigators say the driver slammed into a concrete overpass after missing warning signs. two people died. everyone else on board was injured. officials say the more than 30 passengers were mostly senior citizens from the local area. the bus was privately own
